In the archives, select Class XII, the examination year and Economics. Check whether the section covers the main or compartment examination. Use the paper code and other labels to find the matching marking scheme. If a download contains several files, read the labels rather than assuming the first file is the one you need.

Keep PYQs and SQPs separate

A previous-year question paper (PYQ) comes from an examination already held. A sample question paper (SQP) is a preparation resource that illustrates a session’s format and question types. Both are useful, but their labels matter: the 2026–27 sample paper is not the actual 2027 examination paper. Start from the current syllabus and check the relevance of questions from earlier years.

How to practise an Economics paper

  1. Set a purpose. Choose a topic check, a group of written answers or a full timed paper. Make the task manageable for your current stage of learning.
  2. Read the instruction carefully. Notice whether you must identify, explain, compare, calculate or justify. Answer the task that was asked.
  3. Make the reasoning visible. Link an explanation to the relevant concept. For a numerical, show the formula, substitution and result; label diagrams when they are needed.
  4. Review with the matching marking scheme. Check the required ideas and working rather than memorising a paragraph word for word. Ask your teacher about any uncertain judgement in your self-marking.
  5. Choose one correction to practise. Rewrite an incomplete explanation or redo a calculation, then test the skill again without the solution.

A small Economics error log

These original examples show how to record a useful correction. They are not copied examination questions.

What I noticedWhat I will changeMy next check
The question asked for an explanation, but I listed terms.Connect each point to how or why the outcome follows.Explain the idea aloud, then write it without notes.
I used the right formula but substituted the wrong figure.Label the data before substituting and check the units.Redo the calculation and trace each figure to its source.
My diagram had no axis labels.Add the axes and relevant labels before writing the explanation.Recreate the diagram from a blank page and explain what it shows.

Add the question’s source, your time taken and the date of your next attempt. A useful review ends with something specific to work on, not just a total score.
